L-O-L-O Lolo, L-O-L-O Lolo..........

Sometimes being wrong is just so good - and tasty. We checked out of St. Martin this morning after eight days with a completely new appreciation for this island (well, the French side at least). Our plan initially had been to spend  two days at the very most visiting - just enough time to check out the marine store and get some sleep after our overnight passage from Virgin Gorda in the BVI. In the spirit of people with all the time in the world, two days became eight and could have easily been longer...

Tintamarre Island
Here is what we learned to love in eight days:

1) Lolos - let us reiterate again how good Creole food tastes when made outside over charcoal and eaten communally overlooking the beach with a beer in hand. We developed a two time a day habit and are already going into withdrawal.

2) Patisseries - The French know how to eat and we are quick learners. The spots here have an incredible selection of breads, sweets, quiches, etc. You eat leisurely outside watching the world walk by. Perfection.

3) It really isn't just all about food - Tintamarre Island is an uninhabited island in the St. Maarten Marine preserve - imagine our surprise when nightfall brought luminescent fish surrounding the boat. The glowed purple around the boat. The colors here just don't translate well in pictures - "blue" just doesn't convey the water. A topic for another post.

4) Early Mardi Gras. It seemed that the entire island turned out in Grand Case on Tuesday for a parade, fireworks, and hundreds of street vendors selling booze, food, jewelry, and various island crafts. The people watching was priceless (done, of course, from the comforts of a Lolo).

Things we could have done without:

1) Being surrounded by two tables of Giant fans while watching our Packers go down to a crushing defeat.

2) The speedo wearing shirtless hairy sasquatch walking through the shops in Grand Case with an embarrassed looking female companion in tow.  (No, not Tom!).

The sail to Anguilla was nice and fast. We had 20-25 knots right on our beam and zipped from Marigot to the western edge of Anguilla in nothing flat. 7 knots the whole way. Now we're in Road Bay, Anguilla and getting ready to enjoy more island cuisine and hospitality. On Monday we are off to St. Barths.

Oh, we are starting to miss work.............Bahahahahaha...OK couldn't keep a straight face for that one.

Tuesday Night in Grand Case (notice my nutella crepe in the way of the picture - yum)
